The Skills for Employment Investment Program (seip training programs), initiated by BASIS (Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services), aims to provide training opportunities to 23,000 individuals over a three-year period. In the first, second, and third years, 5,000, 9,000, and 9,000 trainees respectively will be enrolled in the program. To cater to the needs of new entrants and upskilling programs, BASIS Institute of Technology & Management (BITM) is proposing twelve courses and two courses respectively as part of the SEIP project. Members of the eligible BASIS Student Forum will receive priority consideration for enrollment in this training program. SEIP’s Skills for Employment Investment Program aims to enhance participants’ employability and contribute to their professional development.

The Skills Development Coordination and Monitoring Unit (SDCMU) is a department established under the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh. Its main objective is to transform unskilled and semi-skilled labor into productive and skilled workers in priority sectors. SDCMU works in collaboration with government institutes, private companies, non-government organizations, industry skill councils, and industry associations to achieve this goal. The unit is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through Loan 3131-BAN, which supports the Skills for Employment Investment Program (seip training programs). The SEIP aims to skill 1.25 million youth by 2021 in the targeted sectors, providing assistance and training opportunities to enhance their employability.

The Skills Development Coordination and Observation Unit (SDCMU) and Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) under the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh aim to develop unskilled and semi-skilled labor into skilled workers in priority sectors and support government institutes.

The Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) will focus on six high-growth priority sectors in its initial phase, expanding to include approximately 15 priority sectors over the entire program duration. These sectors, including Agro-processing and Tourism, are crucial for enhancing the competitiveness of Bangladeshi exports and improving the productivity and earnings of the labor force, both domestically and overseas. SEIP aims to mobilize resources to support public and private training providers in meeting the evolving demands of the labor market. The initial six priority sectors are Readymade Garments and Textile, Construction, Information Technology, Light Engineering/Manufacturing, Leather and Footwear, and Shipbuilding.
